Chev ZR2 – Tougher, Smarter and Way More Usable

Some builds are about going bigger.

Some builds are about going louder.

And some builds are about doing it properly.

This Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 came into CTO Industries clean — factory fresh, well-presented and already a capable platform straight out of the box. But like many serious 4WD owners, the customer wanted more.

More usability.
More function.
More durability.
More integration.

And above all — a tidy, quality install with no shortcuts.

What left the workshop was a tougher, smarter and way more usable Chev ZR2, built with premium gear and finished to CTO’s exacting standards.

No mess.
No clutter.
No compromise.

Just a ZR2 done right.

The Vision – Quality Gear, Clean Execution

When this ZR2 rolled into the workshop, the brief was clear:

  • Premium brands only

  • Clean wiring

  • Factory-style integration

  • Practical touring upgrades

  • No unnecessary overcomplication

This wasn’t about bolting on accessories for Instagram. It was about creating a properly set up touring and daily-use American truck that looked factory but performed next level.

The result? A Silverado that now looks tougher, functions better, and is genuinely more usable in real-world conditions.

The Build Breakdown

Let’s go through exactly what was installed — and why each component matters.

Higher Ground Cab Rack

Image: This image is a Chev ZR2 roof setup showing the Higher Ground rack, mounted lights and bonnet aerial installation.

We started up top with a Higher Ground 4x4 cab rack.

Higher Ground has built a strong reputation in Australia for producing robust, purpose-built mounting systems that don’t compromise the factory look of modern utes and US trucks.

Higher Ground 4x4: https://www.highergroundaus.com/

This rack provides:

  • Solid mounting platform for lighting

  • Low-profile design

  • Clean integration with the Silverado’s lines

  • High load strength without excessive bulk

On the ZR2, the cab rack sits neatly without overwhelming the truck’s proportions. It adds functional mounting capability while maintaining that premium OEM-plus look.

It’s subtle.
But purposeful.

Road Vision Stealth Flood Lights (Rack Mounted)

Mounted cleanly into the Higher Ground rack are Road Vision Stealth flood lights.

Road Vision: https://roadvision.com.au/

Road Vision has long been known for producing high-quality commercial-grade lighting solutions. The Stealth range delivers serious output without oversized housings or flashy branding.

Why floods in the rack?

Because overhead flood lighting provides:

  • Excellent campsite illumination

  • Wide peripheral lighting for off-road work

  • Practical task lighting when reversing or maneuvering in tight bush tracks

The key here wasn’t just installing lights.

It was installing them cleanly — wiring concealed, mounts aligned perfectly, and zero visible mess.

STEDI Type-X EVO Mini 4” Lights

Front and centre on this ZR2 are the compact but powerful STEDI Type-X EVO Mini 4” driving lights.

STEDI Lighting: https://www.stedi.com.au/

These lights have quickly become a favourite in the Australian 4WD scene — and for good reason.

The Type-X EVO Mini delivers:

  • Impressive beam distance for a compact housing

  • Strong combo beam pattern

  • High durability

  • Clean, aggressive styling

On the ZR2, they sit neatly integrated with the bar setup — not oversized, not overpowering, just proportionally perfect.

They enhance forward visibility dramatically while maintaining a refined appearance.

That balance is everything.

Customer Supplied Rear-Facing Light Bar

The customer supplied a rear-facing light bar — and CTO integrated it properly.

Rear lighting is often an afterthought. Not here.

When reversing down dark bush tracks, backing into campsites, or working around the rear tray area at night, proper illumination is critical.

Instead of a messy add-on install, this light bar was:

  • Properly mounted

  • Fully integrated into the switch system

  • Professionally wired

  • Finished cleanly with no exposed looms

Function without clutter.

Offroad Creative ZR2 Bar

Up front sits the centrepiece of this build — the Offroad Creative ZR2 Bar.

Offroad Creative: https://offroadcreative.com.au/

Offroad Creative has carved out a strong reputation in the US truck and Australian 4WD market for producing tough, high-clearance bar work that enhances approach angles while maintaining strength.

This ZR2 bar provides:

  • Improved frontal protection

  • Better approach angle

  • Winch compatibility

  • Light integration options

  • Strong visual presence

But what makes this one stand out?

The finish.

Colour Coded with Black Internals

This wasn’t a bolt-on and walk away job.

The bar was colour coded with black internal sections, creating contrast without looking aftermarket.

The black hoop complements the ZR2’s aggressive styling while maintaining factory design cues.

It’s cohesive.
It’s balanced.
It looks intentional.

Black Hoop with Camera Relocation Bracket

Modern trucks mean modern challenges.

The ZR2 comes equipped with factory camera systems — and a proper bar install must account for that.

Instead of deleting features, CTO installed a camera relocation bracket to retain functionality.

This ensures:

  • Forward camera remains usable

  • No loss of factory safety systems

  • Clean integration with the new bar

  • No warning lights or system errors

This is the difference between a basic install and a professional one.

Switch-Pros 8 Switch Panel

All this gear needs control.

Enter the Switch-Pros 8 switch panel system.

Switch-Pros: https://www.switchpros.com/

The Switch-Pros system allows:

  • Centralised accessory control

  • Programmable outputs

  • Reduced wiring clutter

  • Clean dash integration

  • Expandability for future upgrades

Rather than drilling holes for random rocker switches, this setup provides a modern, premium control interface.

Everything controlled.
Everything tidy.
Everything labelled.

And most importantly — future ready.

Kleinn Dual Air Horn

Sometimes practical upgrades can still be fun.

The Kleinn dual air horn delivers serious presence.

Whether it’s highway safety, towing awareness, or just adding authority to a full-size Silverado, the Kleinn setup ensures this truck gets noticed when it needs to.

Installed cleanly and integrated properly — not just thrown in under the bonnet.

Why This ZR2 Works So Well

What makes this build impressive isn’t just the parts list.

It’s the cohesion.

Every component complements the next.

  • The rack integrates lighting.

  • The bar integrates cameras.

  • The switches integrate all electrical systems.

  • The wiring is hidden.

  • The colour scheme matches throughout.

There’s no over-accessorising.
No visual clutter.
No unnecessary chrome.
No mismatched finishes.

Just a tough Silverado that looks factory — but performs far beyond factory.

Built for Real-World Use

Image: This image is a close-up of STEDI Type-X EVO Mini lights mounted neatly to the Higher Ground rack on the Blue Chev ZR2 Silverado.

This isn’t a show truck.

It’s built to:

  • Tour Australia

  • Handle rural and off-road conditions

  • Improve night driving safety

  • Retain factory technology

  • Remain practical as a daily driver

The ZR2 platform is already capable — but with the right upgrades, it becomes genuinely versatile.

And that’s what CTO Industries specialises in.

The CTO Difference

At CTO Industries, builds aren’t rushed.

They aren’t overhyped.

And they aren’t messy.

Every install follows the same principles:

✔ Quality brands only
✔ Clean wiring
✔ Functional integration
✔ Long-term reliability
✔ No shortcuts

It’s why customers return.
It’s why referrals happen.
It’s why the CTO Family keeps growing.
